Current Status and Upcoming Changes

  • Rapid Update Cycle (RUC) replaced by the Rapid Refresh (RAP) Analysis and Forecast System

    On May 1, 2012, beginning with the 1200 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) run, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will replaced the Rapid Update Cycle (RUC) with the Rapid Refresh (RAP) model. The only changes that is noticable to READY users other than the name change is that the new RAP model has an 18 hour forecast instead of a 12 hour forecast.
