What's New in HYSPLIT 5.0.0

The following is a brief description of the HYSPLIT updates and new features added since the last release with links to the relevant tutorial sections. Note that only a few tutorial sections are affected by the update and older HYSPLIT versions will still work and give the same results, for the most part, with the contents of this tutorial.

Meteorology

• Vertical interpolation of data to internal grid using WRF method
• Calculations using time-averaged meteorological data fields

Trajectories

• Create a single center-of-mass trajectory from a multi-particle simulation

Air Concentrations

• Turbulence derived from stability using equations from Hanna
• Variable Lagrangian time scale for vertical turbulence
• Modified Richardson number profile to determine mixed-layer height
• Modified dispersion equations for mass-consistency

Special Simulations

• Replaced STILT emulation mode with complete STILT configuration option

Display Options

• New Python display programs for trajectories, air concentration, and arrival times
• Python trajectory display includes particle distribution about the trajectory
