Upsloping of moisture along the Tennessee line will lead to periods of snow showers in addition to gusty winds during the day today. Then, as snow showers taper to a few flurries, falling temperatures combined with these gusty winds will yield bitterly cold wind chills across portions of the high terrain. Some snow showers and flurries can be expected as the colder air moves in. The snow showers is expected to produce light snow accumulations in some locations across the northern Plateau and southwest Virginia, especially across the higher elevations and ridge tops, with a dusting up to 1 inch possible in these areas. The breezy conditions and cold temperatures tonight will produce low wind chill readings. Wind chills tonight and early Wednesday morning will drop to zero to 10 degrees above zero across southwest Virginia and 5 to 15 above zero over the northern Plateau and northeast Tennessee at times especially over the higher elevations. Be prepared for scattered slick spots due to snow covered roadways today across the northern Plateau and southwest Virginia. Use caution while driving. The cold wind chills may cause frostbite if you are not dressed properly tonight and early Wednesday morning. Make sure kids waiting for the bus to arrive Wednesday morning are dressed for the cold.
