.Discussion...
Snow will spread across the mountains and adjacent plains today
bringing some wetting precipitation amounts and around 5 to 12
inches of snow to the mountains. Some of the interior valleys
including the Wet Mountain Valley and Upper Arkansas River Valley
could see anywhere from 4 to 7 inches of snow. Embedded
thunderstorms could produce some locally intense snowfall rates and
locally higher amounts in and near the southeast mountains. A cold
front will bring cooler temperatures to much of the plains today
with precipitation falling primarily as rain below 4500 feet.
Precipitation will be focused across the mountains and adjacent
southeast plains leaving the southeast corner of the state and
southern San Luis Valley seeing little to no appreciable moisture.
Conditions warm up and dry out for the weekend through next week
with a brief cool down behind a cold front for Wednesday. As drier
air spreads back over the region, we may see daily critical fire
weather conditions return next week for the San Luis Valley and
portions of the I-25 corridor and southeast plains as temperatures
remain above normal and winds increase again.
Afternoon dispersions will range from poor to fair across the
central and southeast mountains today, to good to excellent across
southern portions of the district. Lighter winds Saturday will keep
dispersions in the fair range across most of the plains with good or
better across the mountains and southern valleys.
