What is the difference between the FNL and CDC Reanalysis data sets?

Differences between the two datasets can be found by looking at the model horizontal and vertical grid resolutions and time intervals in the following README files:

FNL: https://www.ready.noaa.gov/fnl.php
CDC1: https://www.ready.noaa.gov/gbl_reanalysis.php

The most obvious difference is the horizontal spatial resolution (2.5 degrees (~278km) for CDC and 190.5km for FNL).
