Backward versus Forward Dispersion


  • If multiple receptor stations exist, the "upwind" plumes can be used
    to triangulate a source region
  • The emission can be estimated if the dispersion from the receptor to source
    is assumed to be the same as from source to receptor
  • There is additional uncertainty in "backward" dispersion by assuming
    a point source at the receptor
  • For optimal results dispersion should be during well mixed conditions
