- Default HYSPLIT output in mass/volume units
- Many measurements are in volume mixing ratios
(volume pollutant / volume air)
- To convert between units requires the pollutant's molecular weight
- A shortcut is to divide the output concentration by the air density (ichem=6)
- The resulting output is then mass mixing ratio (mass pollutant / mass air)
- Multiply by the ratio of the molecular weight of air (29) to the pollutant
- The result is the volume mixing ratio
