Sunday, March 31, 2024 DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY THROUGH 0055Z April 01, 2024 SMOKE: North Carolina/Atlantic Ocean... Very light remnant smoke was seen extending eastward off the coast of North Carolina and over the Atlantic Ocean. This smoke is like due from the seasonal burning throughout the Central and southeastern U.S. Cuba... Widespread fire activity was observed across Cuba with predominantly light density smoke spreading along the southern and northwestern coastlines. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Central America/Pacific Ocean... High seasonal fire activity was seen across central-southern Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, and Central America resulting in large plume of light-to-moderate smoke spreading across entire region and in particular over the central Mexico states and adjacent areas in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean off the southern coastline of Mexico. Aerosols from gas flaring activity in the Bay of Campeche and other urban sources in central Mexico contributed additional smoke to those general areas. WS THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE: JPEG map: https://www.ospo.noaa.gov/data/land/fire/currenthms.jpg Smoke data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Smoke_Polygons Fire data: https://satepsanone.nesdis.noaa.gov/pub/FIRE/web/HMS/Fire_Points ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS REGARDING THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE SENT TO: SSDFireTeam@noaa.gov
