Sunday, April 14, 2024 DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY THROUGH 0018Z April 15, 2024 SMOKE: Central United States/Eastern United States/Manitoba .. A large area of light to moderate density smoke attributed seasonal fires throughout the Central U.S. was seen from northeastern Texas all the way north onto the eastern Dakotas and Manitoba. The smoke continued over most of the Central Plains and Mississippi Valley, and extending eastward over the eastern United States with the exceptions being the far southeastern and northeastern United States. Heavy burning in eastern Kansas created an area of moderate density smoke. Florida... Multiple agricultural fires were active today south of Lake Okeechobee, releasing light-to-moderate density smoke to the west that was reaching over the Gulf of Mexico. Saskatchewan... A possible wildfire in eastern Saskatchewan was releasing light to moderate smoke that was observed moving southeast into southern Manitoba. AEROSOL/SMOKE: Southern and Central Mexico/Southern Gulf of Mexico/Jamaica/Cuba/Caribbean Sea/Pacific Ocean... Seasonal fire activity throughout central-southern Mexico, Central America, Jamaica, Cuba and northern South America contributed to an area of mostly light density smoke that was observed today over the Pacific Ocean off the coast of southern Mexico and northern Central America, in addition to the Caribbean Sea. A few large wildfires were also present in the state of Oaxaca/Mexico releasing moderate-density smoke to their immediate surroundings. Additional aerosol pollution from urban activity and gas flaring in central Mexico was also observed over the state of Veracruz. Eglin THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE, TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE ALSO DESCRIBED.
