DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0231Z April 03, 2024

SMOKE:
Mid-Atlantic/Southeastern US...
Numerous prescribed/agricultural burns and embedded wildfires were seen
in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. These
fires produced an area of mostly light density smoke that was moving
east and off over the coastal Atlantic along southern Virginia through
South Carolina. Moderate density some was observed in South Carolina
and Florida.

Cuba...
An area of light density smoke could be seen over most of Cuba from
seasonal burning today, extending to the north towards the Florida Keys
and to the south over the Caribbean Sea.

Haiti/Caribbean Sea…
A light density area of smoke from seasonal burning throughout Haiti
was extending west over the Caribbean Sea.

AEROSOL/SMOKE:
Central-Southern Mexico/Gulf of Mexico/Yucatan Peninsula/Central
America/Pacific Ocean...
A large area of predominantly light smoke attributed to widespread
seasonal fire activity throughout central-southern Mexico, Yucatan
Peninsula, Central America and northern South America was observed
today over southern Mexico, the Gulf of Mexico, Central America, and
the Pacific Ocean off the southern coastline of Mexico. Aerosols from
a composite of volcanic emissions and industrial sources in Mexico and
gas flaring activity in the Bay of Campeche contributed to the expansive
area of aerosol/smoke seen in these regions today.

THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS OF
SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED
FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE,
TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.  AREAS OF BLOWING DUST ARE
ALSO DESCRIBED.  USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF THESE
AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO THE SOURCE
FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
