Setup WRF/ARW Simulation for HYSPLIT

READY logo

Overview

The WRF/ARW mesoscale meteorological model has been configured to run and create a HYSPLIT-compatible meteorological file so that HYSPLIT can be run with high resolution meteorological data. Currently, the the system is designed to create and run with 3 domains (6 hour spin-up):

  • d01: CONUS domain at 27 km with 9 hours of forecast data
  • d02: Regional domain at 9 km with 9 hours of forecast data
  • d03: User domain at 3 km with 9 hours of forecast data

For boundary conditions, WRF uses the AWRF archive (27 km) for 1980 to the end of the last year and the NARR data from the Research Data Archive at NCAR/UCAR (http://rda.ucar.edu) for the current year up to the end of the last month. Current forecasts can be produced for the last 9 days from the current day using the GFS forecast model for boundary conditions.
