Until there are sufficient fires in Hawaii, two surrogate fire locations have been inserted to the west of the Big Island of Hawaii for test purposes. Also, this prediction is independent of the operational smoke forecast for the continental United States (CONUS) and therefore any smoke originating over the CONUS domain will not be included with other smoke originating in the Hawaii domain. However, fires originating over Hawaii are modeled in both the CONUS and Hawaii forecasts.
